How the whole dishonest-renter-story ended up
In previous posts (especially “What to expect from the worst renter in the world”), I explained that Fred and I were facing issues with our first renter: he had accumulated several months of unpaid rent, left the flat without letting us know (and without keeping paying the rent of course), his warrantor wouldn’t give us the keys back, etc. Well, the warrantor ended up giving the keys back but I was still afraid that the renter had caused damages to our fully furnished flat.
Our new management company went to the flat and told us today that it had been left in an ok shape: the renter did take stuff that wasn’t his like towels, floorcloth and sponges (why in the world would you take that?!) and a linen basket, but he didn’t intentionally break or steal the furniture nor the TV and DVD player. So we are kind of relieved, it’s not perfect but it could have been much worse.
Now, we are waiting for an estimate to have the lock changed and to add a security bolt. We are also waiting for an estimate from a cleaning company to have the flat cleaned and to have little things repaired before another renter can move in and we can really make a fresh start.
